Hi my name is Maggie and I'm 43 years old from the Midwest. I have never blogged but I have decided to document my weight loss journey with the hopes of giving insight to those who may want to have the Gastric Sleeve surgery.
Since my teenage years and my entire adult life I have been overweight. I have tried many different diets and with each one I had initial success but eventually I would gain the weight back and gain more. About 10 years ago, I came to terms with my size and can honestly say I am comfortable with myself but I do realize that although I'm a successful professional and do realize that my size has negative impact on how the corporate world sees me. The biggest impact of my weight and size has been my health and how people see me. I am a diabetic and I know that every year that passes I will continue to ruin my health so I have decided to take a giant step (for me) and undergo Gastric Sleeve Surgery.
Thankfully I have Blue Cross insurance which will pay for the entire surgery minus $100. I have chosen a surgeon in my area that is highly recommended. I had an initial consultation and at that time decided to do the Lap Band surgery. Initially I chose the Lap Band because I felt it was a less invasive procedure but after researching life after Lap Band and Gastric Sleeve, I decided to talk to my doctor and requested to change the surgery to the Gastric Sleeve. My doctor agreed and said that it was the best option for me. So I am now scheduled to have the Gastric Sleeve in less than 6 days.
Currently I am on my 10th day of the liquid diet and I have lost 12 pounds. I won't lie, it was hard at the beginning but I am now used to the routine. I could kill for something crunchy :-). I can't wait for surgery day, I am scarred, terrified at the thought of being put to sleep but I am so excited, I feel like I'm beginning a new journey that will hopefully have a happy ending.
Maggie
